In present paper, the mathematical models for calculating the working kinematic clearance angle for down and up milling are defined, and the dependences of the working kinematic clearance angle on the cutting data parameters for small-sized end mills are presented. During the engagement of the cutting tooth in the work piece material, the cutting forces and the balance of heat distribution between the tool and the work piece change affecting the tool life and the quality of the machined surface. In addition, the value of the working kinematic clearance angle is of high importance in terms of the process performance and product quality.
