A metallofraphic study is made of the effect of multichannel CO2 laser integral heat transfer nonuniformity on the quality of laser quenching. In the case that the laser emitting tubes operate with different intensities or even some of them become disabled the regions of incomplete fusion or deep alloying may emerge during cladding and nonuniform microhardness distribution may arise over the width of hardened band in the case of laser quenching. A proposal is made to use sclerometric methods for the control of laser hardened parts and heat transfer uniformity of multichannel lasers.
