Elastic system frequency-response characteristics of machine-tool influencing surface finish quality during the spline grinding process

Represents pilot study on machine elastic system frequency-response characteristics influencing surface finish quality during the spline-grinding process. It is shown that the maximum values of the amplitudes in the tool and workpiece forced vibration spectrum are one order less than the shape errors in longitudinal section. The best surface finish quality is obtained at bilateral spline-grinding (Rz < 0,27 micron). The grinding wheel residual imbalance, being  the source of forced vibrations, has the most dramatic impact on the quality.
