Nanomodification of subsurface layers during electrical discharge machining of oxide nanocomposites

The study of changes occurring in the subsurface layer of an electrically conductive nanocomposite based on aluminum oxide Al2O3 + 30 % TiC during electrical discharge machining in water and hydrocarbon oil using a brass tool showed that conclusions could be drawn about the observed surface and subsurface reactions in the presence of heat (10,000 C), the nature of the processes occurring between two electrodes in different media, and nanomodification of the resulting surfaces, which can be advantageous for many applications by using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

Keywords: ceramic nanocomposite; sublimation; submicrostructure; electricalerosion.
